Recovery Corps welcomes executive director of Illinois programs

Recovery Corps in Illinois welcomes a new addition to its leadership team, Liz Thompson, MPH! As the executive director of Illinois programs, Thompson will lead the expansion of Recovery Corps programming across the state.

Thompson joins Recovery Corps with over 14 years of experience in health education, counseling, and social services. Notably, she’s served as the director of public health at Howard Brown Health and most recently as the Director of Grants Administration for Community Health Innovation at Malcolm X College, both in Chicago.

Thompson received her Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois Chicago where she focused on community health sciences and research methods. She is excited to join an organization that is proven to make a positive impact.

“In Illinois, we are seeing a gradual shift towards statewide policies that aim to reduce barriers to recovery and prioritize public health-focused solutions to substance use disorder and the opioid crisis,” she says. “The Recovery Corps model plays a crucial role in strengthening the recovery landscape in our state. It is such an honor to be chosen for this role and to support the growth of Recovery Corps in Illinois."

Outside of work, Thompson is a competitive strength-training athlete and cat mom to her cats named Chicken and Watts.

Recovery Corps launched in Illinois in 2021, providing support to 13 recovery organizations in 12 cities. Today, the program has grown to partner with more than 30 organizations across 19 counties! Learn more at RecoveryCorps.US/Illinois.
